Yin

Classes focus on holding seated and floor postures for 3–5 minutes. These longer holds gently apply tension and therapeutic compression to joints and connective tissues. This creates space and freedom in areas that cannot be easily accessed through our more vigorous muscular stretches. Different from restorative, Yin Yoga allows for the body to be gently "pulled" by gravity and body position so that certain "stresses" can be applied to joints, tendons, connective tissues, and even bones - allowing for the therapeutic effect. It is the time that the poses are held that give yin its rewarding and mentally challenging reputation. All levels of experience are welcome.

Restorative

In Restorative Yoga, poses are held for several minutes, fully supported by props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, sandbags), allowing you to find a meditative state to relax the mind and body. All postures are on the ground allowing the body to rest, relax, and rejuvenate without any demands on the muscles. Hands off assists are provided with the use of props. This practice will meet you where you are emotionally and physically in a safe space. All you need to do is show up! Open to all levels of experience.

Restorative/Meditation

As in traditional Restorative Yoga, poses are held for several minutes, fully supported by props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, sandbags), allowing you to find a meditative state to relax the mind and body. Nearly all postures are on the ground, which will allow the body to rest, relax and rejuvenate without any demands on the muscles. Mindfulness practice, Meditation, will be incorporated throughout the practice to calm the mind and reduce stress.

Back Care *LYB Friendly

This class will incorporate range of motion, muscular strength and length, balance, and postural modifications to explore the relationship of the spine to the entire mind-body complex. Students are encouraged to individualize their practice and are offered tools to explore their bodies at home, at work, and in other classes. *LYB = LoveYourBrain Friendly LYB friendly classes are existing classes offered at NoDa Yoga that have been identified as accessible for the TBI community and are taught by instructors who have completed the LoveYourBrain training. Gentle Yoga Therapeutics

Therapeutic Yoga is the practice of using key principles of yoga, including adaptation of postures, breathwork, meditation, contemplation, and more for improving movement patterns (enhancing strength, stability, balance and flexibility), mindfulness, stress reduction, and overall well-being. We adapt the poses in each class to suit the needs of the students and use weekly themes, always with the intention of setting the stage for a therapeutic outcome for the entire group. For example, one class may focus on yoga for the upper back, neck, shoulders, or for the lower body, total body balance, and even more specific themes like Yoga for Anxiety, Grief, or Better Breathing! Physiologically, these movements can be thought of as rehabilitation, much like physical therapy, or working with emotions for helping students achieve a healthier state of mind, especially when faced with life's inevitable challenges. Suitable for ALL Levels!
